Nain 6LA

Nain is located in central Iran. The unique characteristic of Nain carpets is their single medallion set in a blue or ivory background. Nain rugs and carpets have curvilinear patterns very similar to those of Isfahan carpets. Weavers in Nain use Persian knotting and 'cork' wool or very fine hand-spooned wool in combination with silk. The fineness of a Nain carpet is usually measured in so called 'LA'. This describes the number of the strings twisted in a single warp thread. The lower the numbers of strings the finer are the knots. In practice one differentiates between 6LA, 9LA and 12LA Nains, whereas 6LA is the finest. Nain carpets are very decorative and are among the finest Persian carpets.

The town of Hereke in Turkey is recognized for producing one of the finest hand knotted carpets in the world. Hereke gained its real fame with silk carpets of superlative quality. These silk carpets are made of Bursa silk and they reach fineness up to 1,5 Million double knots per square meters. The patterns vary from floral to life tree and animal motives, occasionally including Arabic writings of the Koran in the borders.
